The main difference is the rim. Egyptian Doumbeks have a rounded, smooth rim with internal tuning lugs, which is comfortable for the hands and produces a deep, rolling sound. Turkish Darbukas have a flat, exposed rim with external screws, designed for sharp finger-snapping techniques. Both are essential parts of our Darbukas family.
